Who can take part

  • You must be a child between 0 and 17 years old.
  • Your weight must be at least 3.5 kg (about 7.7 pounds).
  • You must be in the heart ICU or a similar critical care unit after heart surgery or for a heart condition.
  • You must be receiving a blood thinner called unfractionated heparin through a special IV line (central line).
  • You must have both an arterial line and a central venous catheter already in place.
  • Your parent or guardian must sign a consent form agreeing to the study.
