Who can take part
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are scheduled for elective carotid artery surgery (surgery on the neck artery to prevent stroke)
- You will receive general anesthesia for the surgery
- You are willing and able to provide written permission (informed consent)
- You do not have a diagnosed mental disorder (like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia)
- You do not have a neuromuscular disease (like muscular dystrophy or ALS)
- You do not have severe heart failure (Class 3 or 4, meaning you get short of breath just resting or with light activity)
