Who can take part

  • You must have had type 2 diabetes for more than 5 years.
  • You must be taking diabetes pills (like metformin, sulfonylureas, or newer drugs called SGLT2 inhibitors or DPP-4 inhibitors) for at least 2 to 3 years.
  • You cannot have serious diabetic eye disease (called severe non-proliferative or proliferative retinopathy) at the start of the study.
  • You cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding.
