Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 40 years old
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is 27 or higher
  • You have been diagnosed with primary (essential) high blood pressure
  • Your blood pressure is at least 135/85 but lower than 160/100 when measured without a doctor present
  • You take no more than one blood pressure medication
  • You do not have diabetes (type 1 or type 2) and are not using insulin or other injectable diabetes drugs
