This study looks at whether giving thyroid hormone replacement to people with mild underactive thyroid (subclinical hypothyroidism) after heart bypass surgery improves their recovery. Who can take part

  • You are between 19 and 90 years old.
  • You are scheduled for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, also known as heart bypass surgery.
  • You have subclinical hypothyroidism – a mild underactive thyroid where your TSH level is slightly high (above 4) but your free T4 is normal.
  • You have not taken thyroid hormone medication (levothyroxine) in the past 4 weeks.
  • You have not taken antithyroid drugs (like propylthiouracil, methimazole, or carbimazole) in the past 3 months.
  • You do not have a serious illness expected to shorten your life to less than one year, such as advanced cancer.
