Sodium bicarbonate enema for constipation and toxins in kidney disease

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 60 years old.
  • You have chronic kidney disease stage 3 or 4 (moderate to severe kidney damage).
  • Your kidney function has been stable (not getting worse) for the last 3 months.
  • You do not have an active bowel disease such as inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer, severe hemorrhoids, or anal fissures.
  • You have not had recent abdominal or colorectal surgery.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you do not have a severe heart condition or an electrolyte imbalance.
