Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity or oropharynx that hasn't spread and hasn't been surgically removed.
  • You are scheduled to receive radiation therapy to both sides of the neck, with or without chemotherapy.
  • You are able to come to follow-up visits and complete quality of life questionnaires and saliva tests.
  • You have mild or no dry mouth before starting the study.
  • You have a performance status of 0, 1, or 2 (can do daily activities with little or no help).
