Brain Stimulation for Confusion After Heart Surgery

Who can take part

  • You are age 50 or older
  • You are having heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine (for bypass grafts, valve repair, or combined procedures)
  • You develop confusion or delirium after surgery (confirmed by a specific medical assessment called CAM-ICU)
  • You have no history of taking antipsychotic medications before surgery
  • You have no metal implants in your head or near your brain, and no pacemaker or similar devices
  • You are able to understand and communicate in your local language, and can consent to the study
