  • Age 18 or older
  • Recently diagnosed with aplastic anemia confirmed by blood tests and bone marrow biopsy
  • Platelet count below 30,000 per microliter of blood
  • Not a candidate for stem cell transplant or ATG (a standard first-line treatment)
  • Liver and kidney function no more than twice the normal limit
  • Able to perform light daily activities (ECOG score 2 or better)
