Who can take part

  • You are 19 years or older
  • Your heart is not pumping effectively, causing very low blood pressure (below 90) or requiring medicine to maintain it
  • You have signs that your body is not getting enough blood flow, such as confusion, cold/clammy skin, or low urine output
  • Your heart damage has been confirmed by heart catheterization (a tube placed in blood vessels) or ultrasound (echocardiogram)
  • You have not received vasoactive drugs (blood pressure medicines) for more than 6 hours before enrollment
  • You are not already on a mechanical heart pump or temporary life support device
