Who can take part
- You are at least 22 years old and were admitted to rehabilitation within the past 3 to 8 weeks with a new spinal cord injury
- Your injury is in the neck or upper back region (levels C1 through T5) and is not getting worse
- Your cough strength is weak (measured as less than 160 L/min peak cough flow)
- You do not need a breathing machine (mechanical ventilator) to breathe
- You can sit upright on your own
- You expect to stay in rehabilitation for at least 3 more weeks
