Electrical and breathing therapy to improve unassisted cough after spinal injury

Who can take part

  • You have a spinal cord injury (from trauma or other causes) from C2 to T12
  • Your injury happened less than 12 months ago, and you’re currently in inpatient rehab
  • You can understand and speak English well enough to follow instructions
  • When they apply the electrical stimulation, you feel a muscle contraction
  • You don’t have a pacemaker or epilepsy, and you’re not pregnant
  • You don’t have open tracheostomy, open wounds, or metal implants where the electrode would go
