Comfort Tote to Help Young People Recover From Spine Surgery

This study tests whether a special comfort bag (filled with items to help you relax and cope) improves how well young people recover after spine fusion surgery for scoliosis. The bag is designed to help reduce pain, anxiety, and stress during your hospital stay and recovery at home.

Who can take part

  • You are between 10 and 21 years old
  • You have been diagnosed with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS)—an abnormal curvature of the spine
  • You are scheduled for posterior spinal fusion (PSF)—a surgery to straighten and stabilize your spine—at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in New York
  • You and your parent or guardian (if you're under 18) agree in writing to participate
  • You do not have two or more serious ongoing health conditions besides your scoliosis
  • You do not have severe infections, heart disease, severe anemia, bone disease, or serious neurological or developmental conditions that would prevent you from using the comfort bag
