Who can take part

  • Age 18–80 years old
  • Able to understand and sign consent to participate
  • Able to have MRI scans of your lower spine and thigh
  • Either have chronic kidney disease (kidney function below 60 for at least 3 months) OR have normal kidney function (for the control group)
  • No MRI contraindications like pacemakers, metal implants, or severe claustrophobia
  • Not currently taking bone-loss medications like bisphosphonates
