Lowering norepinephrine in shock: effects on blood vessel pressure

This study tests whether reducing the dose of a medicine that raises blood pressure (norepinephrine) affects how blood moves through the body in people with distributive shock. If you are on a steady low dose of norepinephrine and have a special heart monitor (PiCCO catheter), this trial may help doctors understand safer ways to wean the medicine.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older with distributive shock
  • You are receiving norepinephrine (a blood-pressure-raising medicine) and your mean arterial pressure is between 75 and 85 mmHg
  • You have a PiCCO catheter in place (a thin tube that measures blood flow from the heart)
  • You are on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilation)
  • Your doctor has decided it is safe to try reducing your norepinephrine dose
