Testing a New Method to Diagnose a Common Cause of High Blood Pressure

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old.
  • For healthy volunteers: your blood pressure is between 100-120/60-80 mmHg and you have no history of high blood pressure.
  • For patients with suspected primary aldosteronism: your doctor suspects you have this condition and you are willing to take spironolactone for 4 weeks.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18.5 and 23.9 if you are a healthy volunteer.
  • You have no history of liver or kidney problems, heart disease, diabetes (if poorly controlled), or certain other illnesses.
  • You are not taking medicines that affect the renin-angiotensin system (like some contraceptives, steroids, or diabetes drugs).
