This study looks at how your body's metabolism might affect your heart after major abdominal cancer surgery. You will have a CPET before surgery to check your heart and lung function, and doctors will monitor your heart during recovery to see if changes in how your body uses energy could lead to heart injury.

Who can take part
- You are 18 or older.
- You are scheduled for major abdominal cancer surgery and will stay in the hospital overnight.
- You have a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) scheduled before your surgery.
- Your surgery is not an emergency.
- You are not pregnant.
- You do not have an active blood infection (sepsis) or end-stage organ failure.
