This trial tests whether taking a statin before and after lung surgery can prevent a common heart rhythm problem called atrial fibrillation (AFib). If you are 60 or older and having a lung segment or lobe removed, this study may help you avoid AFib after your operation.

Who can take part
- You are 60 years old or older.
- You are scheduled for lung surgery to remove a segment or lobe (not the whole lung).
- You have a normal heart rhythm (sinus rhythm) based on a recent EKG before surgery.
- You are not taking any heart rhythm medications (except beta-blockers).
- You do not have untreated thyroid problems, serious liver disease, or kidney problems (creatinine above 150).
- You are not already on a high-dose statin (like atorvastatin 40 mg or more per day, or rosuvastatin 20 mg or more per day).
