Bedside breathing test for lung injury
Part of Lungs & breathing clinical trials.
This trial is testing a simple breathing test at the bedside to help doctors understand lung damage in patients who are in intensive care with severe breathing problems. It might help guide treatment for patients with acute lung injury.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are in intensive care for less than 24 hours.
- You need high-flow oxygen therapy and have moderate to severe breathing problems.
- You are able to cooperate with a breathing test and give written consent.
- You are not on a breathing tube and do not need to be intubated.

This study is testing a new mask for non-invasive ventilation (a breathing machine that helps you breathe without a tube in your throat). It is designed to see if the mask is comfortable and works well for people who already use this type of breathing support at home.
This trial tests whether hypnosis can help people in the ICU who need noninvasive breathing support (breathing help without a tube) for breathing flare-ups related to COPD and/or obesity. It aims to make this treatment easier and safer while you are awake.
This trial compares different ways to help you breathe without a breathing tube: helmet NIV, CPAP, or high-flow nasal oxygen. It aims to see which support works best for people who have sudden (acute) low oxygen levels.
This trial tests if non-invasive breathing support (a mask that helps you breathe) can improve lung healing in people with broken ribs from chest trauma who need extra oxygen. It aims to see if this treatment helps avoid the need for a breathing tube and speeds up recovery.
This trial tests two noninvasive breathing support methods (NIV and HVNI) for people with pneumonia who are having trouble breathing. The goal is to see which method works better to help you avoid needing a breathing tube.
This trial tests different types of noninvasive breathing support (like masks or high-flow nasal oxygen) to see which works best for patients with low oxygen levels. It may be helpful if you are in the hospital, need extra oxygen, and are not already on a breathing tube.
