Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 70 years old
  • Have a diagnosis of depression (major depressive disorder) according to standard criteria
  • Have tried at least two different antidepressants for at least 8 weeks without adequate response
  • Have a current depression score of 17 or higher on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17)
  • Have been on a stable antidepressant medication for at least 1 month before starting the study
