Amino acid nutrition during dialysis for malnutrition and anemia
Part of Blood & lymphatic clinical trials.
This trial is testing whether giving a special amino acid solution during dialysis can improve nutrition in people with kidney disease who are on dialysis and also have malnutrition and anemia. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and this may help you gain strength and improve your overall health.

Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You receive dialysis at the hospital as an outpatient and are stable (no acute illness).
- You have malnutrition, shown by a low BMI (below 18.5), a small upper-arm measurement (below 24.5 cm), and a low pre-albumin level in your blood.
- You have anemia, meaning your hemoglobin is below 13 g/dL (men) or below 12 g/dL (women).
- You have been on dialysis for at least 3 months, with sessions lasting 3-4 hours, 2-3 times a week.
- You are not currently hospitalized, not having active bleeding, and not receiving other nutrition support or albumin during the study.

This trial tests a special peritoneal dialysis solution with amino acids (protein building blocks) to improve nutrition in people on CAPD who are malnourished. It might help boost your protein levels and overall health.
This trial tests a special dialysis fluid with amino acids (building blocks of protein) to see if it helps improve nutrition in people on peritoneal dialysis who have low protein levels. If you qualify, it may help boost your nutrition.
This study tests whether giving a protein supplement during dialysis is safe and helps improve nutrition. You take the supplement during your usual dialysis sessions, and it may help you feel stronger and healthier.
This trial tests whether adding amino acid supplements during dialysis helps people with kidney failure. It may be an option if your doctor decides you need these supplements.
This study tests whether adding extra nutrition during your dialysis sessions can help maintain or improve your muscle mass. If you are on long-term hemodialysis, this could potentially help you feel stronger and healthier.
