Vaccine for children and teens with low-grade brain tumors

This trial tests a peptide vaccine plus a medication called poly-ICLC for people with certain low-grade gliomas that cannot be fully removed. The goal is to help the immune system recognize and attack the tumor.

Who can take part

  • Have an unresectable low-grade glioma that has had at least two prior chemotherapy or biologic treatments (radiation can count as a biologic), and the tumor may have spread within the brain/spinal cord
  • Be HLA-A2 positive on a blood test (flow cytometry)
  • Be between 12 months old and under 22 years old at the time of screening
  • Be able to do daily activities at a good level (performance status at least 70 on the study scale) and be off high-dose anti-inflammatory steroid medicines for at least 1 week
  • Have no active serious infection that needs IV antibiotics right now, and be off IV antibiotics for at least 7 days before enrolling
  • Have enough healthy blood and organ function (blood counts, liver tests, and kidney function) and have recovered from prior treatment side effects to mild level (grade 1 or better)
