Nitazoxanide to prevent repeat liver brain episodes

Who can take part

  • You have cirrhosis (liver scarring) and at least one prior episode of hepatic encephalopathy
  • Your age is 20 to 65 years
  • You do NOT currently have active bleeding from your stomach or intestines
  • You do NOT have major mental health problems such as psychosis, or epilepsy (seizure disorder)
  • Your kidney function is not severely reduced (as judged by a blood test creatinine around 2 mg/dL)
