Test a blood-test signature to predict benralizumab benefit

This trial studies whether a specific “signature” from asthma tests can predict who will respond to benralizumab (a severe asthma biologic). If you qualify, the researchers will compare your test results to how well benralizumab controls your asthma and prevents flare-ups.

Who can take part

  • You’re age 18 to 75, and you have severe asthma requiring high-dose inhaled steroid plus another controller and/or steroid tablets
  • Your lung function test in the past showed a big improvement after treatment (FEV1 improves by at least 12%, and by at least 200 mL)
  • Your asthma control is not great (ACQ-7 score of 1.5 or higher), and you’ve had at least 3 flare-ups in the last year
  • Your blood eosinophils are high enough (at least 0.3 G/L), or if they’re lower then you must meet an “eosinophilic” backup test such as high FeNO or high eosinophils in sputum
  • You must not be a current smoker (and not a heavy former smoker), and you must not have an asthma flare at the start of the study
