Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have a brain bleed (subarachnoid or intracerebral) or a sudden stroke that requires an EVD.
- If your EVD needs to be replaced, you would still continue in your assigned study antibiotic plan after the replacement.
- You have not taken antibiotics in the 7 days before being admitted.
- Your baseline white blood cell count is at least 5,000 (not too low).
- You do not have signs of meningitis, ventriculitis, or another active infection at the start of the study.
