Who can take part

  • You are an adult who recently needed an unplanned hospital or ER visit for sudden breathing worsening with high carbon dioxide
  • This breathing episode happened while you were NOT already using home breathing support (a ventilator, either through the mask or a breathing tube)
  • You do not have major nerve or brain conditions that can directly affect breathing (like spinal cord injury or Alzheimer’s) and you do not have a tracheotomy
  • Your body weight is not in the non-morbidly obese range (the study excludes higher obesity ranges)
  • Your breathing problem was not caused by a drug overdose
  • You can complete sleep studies without needing breathing support during them, and you should not have a serious event that requires ventilation support during the sleep tests
