MRI study in adults with trigeminal neuralgia pain

Trigeminal NeuralgiaMicrovascular Decompression SurgeryDiffusion Tensor Imaging

Part of Brain & nervous system, Mouth & dental clinical trials.

This study uses a special MRI scan to look at how the trigeminal nerve system is working in people with essential trigeminal neuralgia (face pain) and whether there is nerve involvement. You may be asked to get MRI scans while resting, which can help doctors better understand the cause and guide future treatments.

Who can take part

  • You are an adult age 18 or older.
  • Your facial pain is on one side (unilateral essential trigeminal neuralgia).
  • You are being evaluated/treated through the neurosurgery or pain assessment/treatment services for suspected blood-vessel/nerve conflict.
  • You do not have a known neurodegenerative or inflammatory neurologic disease (such as conditions that keep getting worse over time or inflammatory nerve/brain conditions).
  • You have not had surgery for “DMV” before.
  • You can safely have an MRI (no absolute MRI contraindications).

Brain MRI study after Gamma Knife for trigeminal neuralgia

This study uses MRI scans to see how brain connections change after Gamma Knife radiosurgery for trigeminal neuralgia. It may help understand why the treatment works and who benefits most.

NCT05451251Recruiting· Phase 1
Deep brain stimulation for severe trigeminal nerve pain

This trial tests whether deep brain stimulation can reduce intense facial pain from trigeminal neuralgia when medicines and prior procedures have not helped. You may be eligible if you’re an adult with a specific MRI finding near the trigeminal nerve pathway.

Using AI to predict outcomes and test pain treatment for trigeminal neuralgia

This study uses computer-based (AI) predictions to better understand what happens after a specific procedure for trigeminal neuralgia, a face pain condition. It also checks how well a “pain neuromodulation” approach works and what it feels like over time.

Pain after microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia

This study looks at face pain that may happen after a specific surgery for trigeminal neuralgia called microvascular decompression (MVD). Researchers want to understand how common this pain is and how it affects recovery in people with Type I trigeminal neuralgia.

NCT05269472Recruiting
Study of nerve signals during facial pain procedures

This study measures nerve activity (electrical signals in nerves) in people who have trigeminal neuralgia and are getting a common facial pain procedure. It may help researchers better understand the condition and improve future treatments.

Observational study of radiosurgery for trigeminal neuralgia pain

This study follows people with trigeminal neuralgia to see how radiosurgery treatment affects their facial pain. It may help doctors better understand who benefits when medicines do not control the pain enough.
