- You are currently an ICU patient (medical or surgical ICU).
- You can take medicine by mouth or through a feeding tube within 48 hours of ICU admission.
- Doctors expect you to stay in the ICU and to live at least 48 more hours.
- You (or your legal decision-maker/POA) can sign informed consent within 48 hours of ICU admission.
- You can communicate in English without needing special help like sign language, and you can be involved with study staff despite any vision or hearing limits.
