Brain scan mapping before epilepsy surgery

This study uses a special MRI scan to map parts of the front-temporal brain in people with drug-resistant epilepsy who may need surgery. The goal is to better plan surgery by showing which brain areas are involved.

Who can take part

  • You are an adult (not a minor)
  • You are able to give informed consent (in French, if required)
  • You must be having a mapping MRI before planned epilepsy surgery (or be a healthy volunteer without anterior temporal lobe problems)
  • You have epilepsy that does not respond to medication, located in the front/“anterior” temporal lobe (right or left)
  • You can safely have MRI (no MRI safety contraindications; claustrophobia must be manageable)
  • You must not have uncorrected vision problems and must be able to follow instructions
