Inorganic nitrate plus exercise for heart failure performance

Heart Failure

Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This Phase 2 study tests whether taking inorganic nitrate can improve exercise ability and heart-function symptoms in people with heart failure with reduced pumping. It also checks whether the treatment is safe when combined with an exercise program.

Who can take part

  • You’re age 18 to 79 when you sign consent
  • You have heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (your heart pumps out less blood)
  • At the start, your symptoms are NYHA Class II to III (moderate limits with activity)
  • Your echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) shows ejection fraction below 45%
  • Your heart-failure medicines have been stable for about 2 months (no major changes)
  • You can attend exercise testing and agree to study rules without a legally authorized representative

High-Flow Oxygen During Exercise for Heart Failure Patients

This study tests whether breathing high-flow oxygen through a nasal tube during exercise helps people with heart failure exercise longer and feel better. Researchers will compare how well patients do with and without this extra oxygen during cardiac rehabilitation.
