This trial tests whether combining a targeted pill (selpercatinib) with a radioactive iodine dose (I-131) can shrink thyroid cancer that has spread and no longer responds to radioactive iodine. Who can take part

  • You have non-mis-shaped (nonanaplastic) thyroid cancer that came from follicle cells, and it has spread or cannot be removed with surgery
  • Your tumor must have a known RET gene fusion found on approved lab testing (tissue or blood sample)
  • Your cancer must be “radioactive-iodine resistant” based on whole-body scan results and/or scan progression despite prior iodine treatment
  • You must have at least one measurable spot of cancer on scans (tumor size/visibility rules apply) and no single tumor deposit over 4 cm
  • You can’t have had too much prior radioactive iodine treatment (total treatment dose must be 500 mCi or less)
  • You must be healthy enough for treatment (meeting lab and heart/conce rns rules) and able to swallow the study pills
