Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 80 years old
  • Have a confirmed ALS diagnosis (checked by a neurologic expert)
  • Have speech trouble—an inability to speak clearly (anarthria) or very difficult speech (severe dysarthria) that has worsened in the last 4 months
  • Live within a 3-hour drive of the study site and plan to stay in the area for at least 15 months after enrolling
  • Have vision that allows you to look at a computer screen for long periods with regular corrective lenses
  • Not take ongoing high-dose steroid or immunosuppressing medicines by mouth or through an IV
