Family-linked genetic frontotemporal dementia study for teens

This study follows young people ages 9 to 16 who have a close biological family member with genetic frontotemporal dementia (FTD). It aims to better understand this inherited condition and track participants over time. You may complete surveys and thinking/behavior assessments, and you may have brain MRI scans if you choose.

Who can take part

  • You (or your legal guardian) can give consent for the study, and your substitute decision maker can consent if needed
  • You are between 9 and 16 years old when you enroll (with follow-up until age 17)
  • A parent or grandparent (first or second-degree biological relative) has joined the GENFI study or has a known genetic FTD mutation
  • You have a parent/guardian who agrees it’s a good idea for you to join
  • A study partner is available: usually your parent/guardian with regular contact who can help provide study information
  • You and/or your parent/guardian can complete study assessments; brain MRI is optional if you meet MRI safety requirements
