Study brain inflammation in carotid artery narrowing after stroke or TIA

CAROTID STENOSIS

This Phase 2 study looks at a protein called ficolin-2 and whether it relates to brain inflammation after a short stroke-like event or eye blood vessel blockage caused by narrowed carotid arteries. If you recently had symptoms from the carotid artery and meet imaging and health criteria, you may be offered study-related assessments to better understand the cause and help future treatment decisions.

Who can take part

  • You are age 18 or older, and you can sign informed consent before any study procedures
  • Your symptoms were on one side from a narrowed carotid artery and happened within the last 48 hours (a brief TIA, an ischemic stroke, or a retinal artery blockage)
  • Imaging shows carotid artery narrowing between 50% and 99% (checked by ultrasound, MRI/MRA, CT angiography, or an angiogram)
  • Your symptoms were not caused by another known problem (no other identified cause for the event)
  • You do NOT have certain conditions like autoimmune/inflammatory disease, active infection, active cancer, or recent major heart surgery/heart attack/surgery (within 30 days)
  • You can have MRI if needed (no pacemaker/metal issues, severe claustrophobia/agitation, or gadolinium allergy), and kidney function is not severely reduced
