Telavancin levels in patients with external ventricular drain

This study measures how much of the antibiotic telavancin reaches the fluid around your brain and spine when you have a drain in place. It will help doctors understand if this drug is effective for treating brain infections.

Who can take part

  • Adults between 18 and 85 years old
  • Have a drain in your head that is actively removing fluid (ventriculostomy)
  • No known allergy to telavancin or similar antibiotics
  • Good kidney function (eGFR greater than 50)
  • Not pregnant, not a prisoner, and no severe anemia (hemoglobin level above 7)
  • Not receiving other antibiotics at the start of the study
