Who can take part

  • You have Guillain-Barre syndrome and have been on a breathing machine for at least 48 hours.
  • You have trouble breathing on your own (failed at least one try to come off the ventilator).
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are awake and able to follow commands (Glasgow coma score of 13 or more).
  • Your blood oxygen level is above 90% and your blood pH is above 7.25.
  • You are medically stable with no serious heart or lung problems.
