Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old.
  • You are currently in a locked-in state or likely to get there within 2 years due to injury, stroke, or disease.
  • You have severe weakness or paralysis in all four limbs or trouble speaking.
  • You either use a ventilator through a tracheostomy, or can breathe safely on your own and agree to get one if needed.
  • You are healthy enough for brain surgery and live close enough to the University Medical Center Utrecht.
