Testing LXB to clear protein buildup in CAA

This study tests whether the drug LXB (sodium oxybate) can help clear abnormal protein buildup in the brain's small blood vessels (CAA). Participants will take LXB nightly for 8 weeks and have MRIs and spinal taps to measure changes.

Who can take part
- You have either hereditary CAA (with a genetic mutation or strong family history and over age 30) OR probable sporadic CAA (age 50+), OR possible CAA (age 50+).
- You have had no more than 2 symptomatic brain bleeds, and the last one was over a year ago.
- You are not on medications that could interfere with the study drug (like certain sedatives, opiates, or barbiturates).
- You do not have sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome needing treatment, severe depression, porphyria, or a rare enzyme deficiency (SSADH deficiency).
- You are able to have a spinal tap and a 7 Tesla MRI (no claustrophobia, no metal implants, no pacemaker, etc.).
- You can read and understand Dutch and give written consent.
