Who can take part

  • Your baby is between 3 and 6 months old when starting the study drug.
  • Your baby was born after 35 weeks of pregnancy, had HIE (lack of oxygen around birth), and received cooling treatment.
  • A brain MRI taken after cooling showed signs of injury from the lack of oxygen.
  • Your family speaks either English or Spanish.
  • Your baby does not have a known genetic disorder, liver or kidney disease, or a very low weight (below the 10th percentile).
  • Your baby is not taking medicines that could interfere with the study drug, and you are not breastfeeding while taking metformin.
