Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You have type 1 or type 2 diabetes and have been newly diagnosed with a severe form of diabetic eye disease (called proliferative diabetic retinopathy).
  • Your vision is at least 20/200 (able to read the big letter on an eye chart).
  • The center of your retina (the part that helps you see fine details) has no swelling or cysts.
  • You have not had eye surgery in the last 4 months, and you have not had laser or injections for diabetic eye disease in the study eye.
