Who can take part

  • You are age 60 or older.
  • You had surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spine in your lower back) or carpal tunnel syndrome, and the tissue removed during that surgery showed at least a mild amount of amyloid protein.
  • If the amount of amyloid was mild to moderate, you also have had another orthopedic problem like carpal tunnel, trigger finger, a biceps tear, or a joint replacement in your shoulder, hip, or knee.
  • You are not on dialysis and have not been diagnosed with amyloidosis that affects your whole body.
  • You can lie still for about 40 minutes for a PET/CT scan and do not have an allergy to iodine (a substance used in the tracer).
