Shunt for carotid artery narrowing
Part of Brain & nervous system, Heart & circulation clinical trials.
This study tests a new device that is placed through the carotid artery in the neck to temporarily block blood flow during a procedure to open up a narrowed carotid artery. It might be an option for people who have high-risk features that make traditional surgery more challenging.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have narrowing of the carotid artery (the main blood vessel in your neck) that is causing symptoms or is severe.
- You have at least one risk factor that makes standard surgery riskier, such as older age, heart disease, lung disease, previous neck surgery, or other conditions.
- Your carotid artery on the affected side is at least 6 mm wide, as measured by imaging.
- You are able to understand and follow the study requirements and give your consent.

This trial tests a special shunt system to protect your brain during carotid artery stenting. It may help people with severe blockages in the neck artery that supplies blood to the brain.
This trial tests whether placing a stent in the narrowed carotid artery is a good option for people who are at high risk for the standard surgery (carotid endarterectomy). If you have significant blockages in your neck arteries and certain health or anatomical factors that make surgery riskier, this study may be for you.
This trial tests a combination of two tools—a balloon guide catheter and a filter—to make carotid artery stenting safer. It aims to prevent debris from reaching the brain during the procedure, which may reduce the risk of stroke.
This trial tests a special balloon (IVL) to treat hardened plaque in the neck arteries that supply blood to the brain. It is for people who need a stent but whose previous balloon treatment did not work well.
This trial tests a new type of stent placed through a small incision in the neck (not the groin) to treat a narrowed carotid artery, which can reduce the risk of stroke. You may be eligible if you have significant artery narrowing and are considered higher risk for traditional neck surgery.
This study tests a new system that uses a stent (a small mesh tube) to open narrowed carotid arteries in the neck, which helps prevent strokes. It is designed for people with significant narrowing who have either had symptoms like a stroke or mini-stroke, or are at high risk for stroke.
