Who can take part
- Your baby must be at least 35 weeks gestational age at birth
- Your baby's birth weight must be at least 2.5 kilograms (about 5.5 pounds)
- Your baby must have had a lack of oxygen around the time of birth, proven by a blood test or a serious event during labor
- Your baby must show signs of brain injury from lack of oxygen (called neonatal encephalopathy)
- Cooling therapy must be started within 8 hours of your baby's life
- Your baby cannot have known major brain or chromosome problems before birth
