Who can take part

  • You had a recent brain injury (like from a stroke, bleeding in the brain, lack of oxygen, head trauma, or infection).
  • You are unable to follow commands because of a disorder of consciousness, such as a coma, vegetative, or minimally conscious state.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are enrolled within 28 days of your brain injury.
  • You do not have a condition that would make an MRI unsafe (like certain metal implants in your body).
  • You are not expected to pass away soon or have already begun end-of-life care.
