Propranolol to prevent complications after brain hemorrhage

This study tests whether a heart medication called propranolol, given intravenously (through an IV), can prevent serious infections in patients who have had bleeding in the brain. You would receive this treatment within 24 hours of your stroke symptoms starting.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old
  • You can start treatment within 24 hours of your brain hemorrhage symptoms
  • You have no fever or active infection when admitted to the hospital
  • Your stroke severity score (NIHSS) is 10 or higher
  • You are not pregnant and did not give birth in the last 30 days
  • You do not have asthma, COPD, severe heart problems, or a slow heart rate (less than 65 beats per minute)
