Who can take part

  • You were 18 years old or older when you came to the hospital
  • You've been in a coma (very deep sleep where you don't respond to commands) for at least 24 hours because of a brain injury—such as a head trauma, stroke, lack of oxygen to the brain, or infection
  • Your coma is documented by specific neurological measurements (Glasgow Coma Scale scores) showing very low consciousness levels
  • You were admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) or did not survive before admission
  • Your coma was caused by a direct brain problem, not by overall body infection or organ failure
  • We can find or reconstruct your brain responsiveness measurements from the day after you arrived at the hospital
