Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have had a bleeding stroke (intracerebral hemorrhage) diagnosed by brain scan.
  • You can start the procedure within 8 hours of the stroke starting, and be assigned to treatment within 6 hours.
  • The bleeding amount is between 20 and 80 mL (about the size of a golf ball to a small egg).
  • Your stroke symptoms are moderate to severe (NIHSS score 8 or higher).
  • You are not fully unconscious (GCS score 8 or higher).
  • You are not on certain blood thinners (warfarin or low-molecular-weight heparin). Direct oral anticoagulants are allowed.
  • You do not have other conditions that would make the surgery unsafe or affect your recovery.
